NUTRITION

Along with pasture grazing or excellent quality hay, our recommend nutritional supplement is Platinum Performance Equine.
Coming into the breeding season we don’t want a fat or skinny mare. 6 or 7 out of 9 on a body condition score is ideal.
After the mare is pregnant, ideally, we go to pasture grazing. If this is the case, we need clean water, good pasture and iodized salt- all free choice. If we don’t have access to pasture, we want to feed an excellent quality hay of %40 alfalfa – %60 grass and supplement with an excellent quality vitamin and mineral supplement for the first 7 months in normal horse amounts. We only need to up the nutrition in the last 4 months of pregnancy.
We can supply you with enough Platinum Performance Equine to carry you through to foaling at the time we discharge your pregnant mare or arrange delivery to your door. Ask us how.

EXERCISE

Normal exercise can occur up to 8 months. For the last 4 months, we want to see her still moving around, but walking and grazing is enough. Do not small pen or box stall your mare unless there is a complication and it was advised. In at night is fine, especially in the winter but during the day lots of easy walking is advised. In smaller paddocks spread all of her hay around, even in deep snow. This will encourage her to move and keep her system working.
